Our Vision/How to Know God
Our vision at Corinth Baptist is to see our community and world come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord. King Jesus is the only "way, truth, and life" (John 14:6) that a person may have eternal life both here on this earth and in the world to come. It is our heart that you would know Him for yourself. We ask that you would read below on How To Know God to understand what it truly means to be a Christian. To know what we as a church believe about specific doctrines of the faith please see Our Faith page.

How To Know God

Who is God?
For some “God” refers to a being only vaguely connected to real life…
For others “God” is a cold, predictable Judge…
For others “God” is a generous reality, but hardly “personal…”

You may even have a different idea of Him, but the book of Romans in the Bible teaches us who God is and how we can know Him personally.
BECAUSE…
GOD IS CREATOR
of the universe and He created you, too!

“From the creation of the world His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what He has made.” – Romans 1:20
“In the beginning, GOD CREATED…” – Genesis 1:1
Every civilization has worshipped some type of god. One only has to look at the world around us to sense a Presence greater than ourselves. The Bible says there is one true God, and He is personal and all powerful.
Our tendency, though, is to create a god we can control. However we can see what God is really like in creation, Romans 1:20 goes on to say: “As a result, people are without excuse.”
Why would the Bible say we are without excuse?
BECAUSE…
GOD IS GLORIOUS…
and should receive glory from us. However, because we have sinned, we do not give Him the glory He deserves.
When God created everything, He made people as the height of His creation. As people we fail to do what we were created to do: Live in a relationship with God, honoring Him as the One to receive glory.
“For ALL have sinned and fall short of the GLORY of God.” – Romans 3:23
Every preacher, doctor, lawyer or businessman and every mom, every dad, every person - all people, regardless of race, economic situation or heritage, have missed God’s mark.
We have all sinned. What is sin? Sin is doing things that are displeasing to God. Sin is lying, stealing, adultery, pornography, hatred, violent anger, harming others, harming ourselves, and the list goes on and on. This sin is in our nature and is seen in our choices.
THUS WE FACE A DILEMMA
BECAUSE…

GOD IS HOLY…
and will not allow us into His presence stained as we are by sin.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 6:23
Using a monetary analogy, this passage in Romans says the payment for our sin is death. This speaks primarily of spiritual death, being separated from God forever because of our sin. In other words, we have earned the judgment of God.

BUT GOD IS MORE THAN A JUDGE, BECAUSE…
Romans 3:9 says we are under sin. We are separated by that sin from God, who is holy and above sin.
Through the cross Jesus Christ bridged the great gap caused by sin.

BECAUSE…
GOD IS MERCIFUL…
and has made a way for our sins to be cleansed and forgiven and for us to have a restored relationship with God.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is God who was born as a man to pay the wages we owe for sin. He was born of a virgin and lived a sinless life (unlike all other people) so He could die as a sinless sacrifice for our sin. He became our SUBSTITUTE.
“For while we were still HELPLESS, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly…But God PROVES His own LOVE for us in that while we were still sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US.” - Romans 5:6, 8
Jesus did what you and I have no power to do: He ROSE from the dead!
He now sits in heaven; a place God has prepared for people who have received the gift the Bible calls a “new birth.”
He will return one day, to judge those who reject His work of love and to bring all His followers to a new life ultimately with God!
Jesus Christ, who is God and man, did for us what we could not do: lived a sinless life, died for our sins, and rose to offer us new life.
THERE IS ANOTHER ASPECT TO GOD WHICH IS NECESSARY FOR A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM
 BECAUSE…
GOD IS PERSONAL…
and He sent Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord to provide this relationship with God if we repent, confess, and believe.
“If you CONFESS with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and BELIEVE in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED. With the HEART one believes, resulting in RIGHTEOUSNESS, and with the MOUTH one confesses, resulting in SALVATION. – Romans 10:9-10
The Bible would answer the question, “Who is God?” by saying He is the Creator, the only One deserving glory and honor; but because of our sin, He does not receive the glory He is due.
He is the One who gives you the ability to turn form your sin and trust in Him alone to be your Lord and Savior.
Do you understand what you have read?
Is there any good reason that would keep you from confessing Christ as Lord of your life, turning from your sin and following Him? God gave His only Son to die for you. He asks that you give your dying life to serve Him that He may give you life eternally.
Would you like to begin a personal relationship with God your Creator right now?
YOU CAN BECAUSE…
PRAYER IS…
simply talking to God.

The verse saying we confess Jesus is Lord and believe He rose from the dead can become your prayer. If you want to know Him in His life-changing power, pray this with your mind and heart now.
Make this verse your personal prayer:
Dear God, I confess with my mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. God, I would like to be saved. With my heart I believe, resulting in righteousness, and with my mouth I confess (all of my sins), resulting in salvation.
Now that you know who God is and you know Him in a personal way, you will want to grow closer to Him.

SEEK HIS WORD – Through careful and regular study of the Bible we learn more about God and how we can glorify Him in our lives. Following a Bible reading plan can really help a new believer grow in God. Try one of these from BibleGateway.com

SPEAK TO HIM – Prayer is our way of communication with God. God wants to answer our prayers for our good and His glory.

SETTLE IN TO A CHURCH – Involvement in a church, that teaches God’s Word, is a necessary part of the Christian life. We would love to have you visit us at Corinth. You can also surch for a church by your zip code at truelife.org. We are a Bible teaching church that loves sinners and seeks to glorify Christ Jesus. However, there are many churches that do as well, and our greatest concern would be that you go and become a part of one wherever it may be.

SHARE GOD WITH OTHERS – Telling someone about God and what He’s done for you is the best thing you can do for them.

Please remember that these things are ways for the Christian to love their God, and not to earn anything from Him because eternal life in salvation is a free gift!
